Califoria Landscape Design Trends January 15, 2008 |
The Landscape News FlashCaliforia Landscape Design TrendsI discovered a most interesting thing during my recent 'Discover the West in Seven Days' holiday tour. My wife and I had such a great time. I won't even go into the beautiful desert botanical gardens that we enjoyed visiting on our trip this time. But what's interesting to me is that I found that many people have trouble deciding on just the right landscape design style for their home. Some are concerned about complementing the style of their home, while others find their decision heavily influenced by the types of plants and trees that flourish in their area.
One couple I recently spoke with, for instance, had just relocated to Southern California from the arid climate of Arizona.
Their previous landscape design had a strong southwestern flavor with little shade. They knew they wanted a colorful landscape with plenty of covered seating, but weren’t sure how to plan the design and select the right plants to complement their modern California Craftsman home. California landscape design is quite versatile, so designing the ideal plan for this couple’s home was simple. A cozy cottage style garden was designed with elegant flagstone pathways to match the sophistication of the house. Shady seating areas were achieved with romantic, flowering arbors and the charm of some Frank Loyd Wright accessories blended the theme with the design of the home. BTW, the couple couldn't be happier! If you’re planning a landscape design for your California home, the possibilities are endless. This informative article about California landscape design can offer more ideas.
February Garden CalendarWho says it never rains in Southern California? February is considered the month for rain and boy do we need it. Plus this is the last call for pruning and bare root plantings. Last month you recall, you wouldn't want to fertilize, but at the end of this month you've got the green light. Check out the full details here in your
February Garden Calendar.
